Hair transplant surgery with FUE Technique is the most demanded hair transplant in our hair clinic in Barcelona. Hair transplant with the FUE technique is, currently, the most advanced hair transplant to treat baldness and alopecia both in men and women.
Hair transplant with the FUE technique is a systematic and artistic redistribution of the hair follicles, which consists of the introduction of small scalp grafts that contain the above-mentioned “follicular units” (groups of 1, 2, 3 or 4 hair follicles, etc. as they naturally are).
These grafts are acquired with local anaesthesia from the rear and/or lateral area of the scalp (which we call the donor areas) and, after being thoroughly prepared under a microscope, they are carefully introduced with micro-incisions onto the bald areas or areas with little hair which would eventually become bald (in other words, the receiving areas).
After acquiring the hair grafts from the rear and lateral parts of the head which are genetically programmed to grow throughout the lifetime by having hormonal receptors that do not get affected by enzymatic hyperactivity, it is ensured that they do not fall and that they continue to grow normally once they have been inserted onto other areas.
The FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction or “the individual extraction of follicles) Technique is regarded as the most advanced hair transplant technique there is.
What does a hair transplant with FUE Technique consist of?
It consists of the individual extraction of the follicles from the donor area without there being any need for stitches and leaving barely perceptible scars. These follicular units of 1, 2, 3 or 4 hairs are extracted together with the peri-follicular structures (capillaries, the sebaceous gland, the erector pili muscle, etc.).
How is a hair transplant with the FUE technique performed?
We have recorded this video in our hair clinic in Barcelona as well as our operating room and laboratory so that you can see the process with a patient, summarized by our surgical director, Dr. Begoña Barros.
For the donor area, it is necessary to shave practically the entire head, as this is the correct measure for the extraction of the follicular units. For the prospective patients that do not want to have their head shaved but would like the FUE technique to be performed, the shaved areas are camouflaged with hair “curtains”.
- Phase 1: Phase of extraction which requires great ability, experience and precision on the part of the surgeon and specialist technicians. To this end, cylinder-shaped micro-scalpels of 0.8-0.9 mm diameter are used.
- Phase 2 and 3: The phases of preparation and implementation are identical to the ones used for the strip or FUSS method.
Am I a suitable candidate to have my baldness treated with a hair transplant with the FUE Technique?
Yes, if you meet the following parameters:
- If you suffer from limited and controlled hair loss.
- If you suffer from scarring alopecia on a small area.
- If you would like to have short hair and you prefer to avoid perceptible scars.
- If your initial donor areas are of a low density.
- If you would like to camouflage scars from previous transplants.
